CO2 Neutral Conferencing, the world’s first carbon neutral conferencing service providers congratulate Microsoft on their bold step forward.

Microsoft talk about their announcement regarding their commitment to achieve ‘carbon neutrality’

“We might get it right, we might get it wrong, but either way we’re going to share what we’re doing. We’ll share the processes and codes. Part of the process is being transparent about the learning and the mistakes — and hopefully the successes.”

Whether or they succeed or not (and we hope they do), the effort demonstrates the importance we should all place on improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and increasing use of renewable energy.

CO2 Neutral Conferencing are proud to be one of the first organisations in the world to be carbon neutral and welcome Microsoft and all organisations out there that make the commitment!

However, the with the price of fuel rising, roads being congested and air pollution affecting our health. Perhaps we should be looking at alternatives!

Pilot projects for car sharing date back as far as the 1960′s. The first modern car sharing programmes were launched in Switzerland in 1987 and later Germany followed suit. This relatively new idea then travelled to North America via Quebec City in 1994 and now car sharing can be found in most cities across the US and Europe and is utilised in many universities.

If you have to use transport then why not be a little kinder to our environment and consider the car sharing organisations available to us.

Based on calculations from the UK Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, cutting down your car journeys by only 5 miles a week could save 85kg of CO2. Also by choosing a car with the lowest CO2 emissions, you could save the equivalent of four months fuel a year!To be even kinder to our environment, why not consider using phone conferencing, video conferencing or web conferencing - there are many options available to you - make your impact positive, use technology, not travel whenever you can!

There has been lots of media attention surrounding Tupac Shakur’s reincarnation as a hologram at the closing night of Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on Saturday. This spectacular Tupac illusion uses a 19th century magician’s reflection technique called ‘‘‘Peppers Ghost’‘.

So what about using this technology for business? Is there a need? and how can it be done for lower cost?

Many corporate CEO’s and teams travel the world for annual conferences and special events and sales kick-off’s. It is important for them to attend, to be seen and answer questions from their audience but it can be costly and take valuable time from their already incredibly busy schedules. Sometimes an alternative would be much relief.

What if you could use this technology to still be present “virtually” at these events but without having to leave your home city?

CO2 Neutral Conferencing’s on-stage hologram uses the same type of technology used at Coachella to produce the holographic illusion of a live or pre-recorded remote speaker at any on-stage anywhere in the world. However is a re-useable screen and significantly lesser cost.

This ground breaking conferencing solution not only allows the on-premise presenter to interact with 3D objects but also the remote presenters can appear ‘live’ and life size. Using super high definition video conferencing and Telepresence solutions behind the scenes presenters seem as though they’re there in person and can even answer Q&A’s from audiences on-premise.

Once an audience see this in action they are on the edge of their seats, hairs up on the back of their necks!

Therefore, there is no need to travel to multiple destinations. Reduce your costs, your carbon footprint and wow your audience by adding a little ’CO2 Neutral Magic‘ to your event!

There are only 100 days to go until millions welcome the world to the London 2012 Olympics! 133 days to go until the Paralympic Games!

Amongst the hype, Olympic Games officials are providing travel advice to businesses via various media. For the first time in history this includes Twitter via a live chat!

The official London 2012 Travel Advice, quote “Did you know? Without action by businesses to reduce the number of journeys during the Olympic Games, there could be significant additional delays of up to an hour in accessing train services at Baker Street Station, similar to events at Wembley.”

We at CO2 Neutral Conferencing agree that this is a good time to avoid all the traffic, exorbitant travel prices and the potential chaos. Why not host your business meetings using technology, not travel? There are so many alternatives such as Phone Conferencing and Video Conferencing to name but a few. Look out for our next blog this week to help your business get ahead of the games with top tips and advice on Twitter and facebook too!

In our first blog we talked about being Carbon Neutral. Now find out how we work differently and minimize our environmental impact.

CO2 Neutral Conferencing is extremely unique in that every single one our global employees in 4 continents work from home offices. Trust me when I say this is not an easy task to achieve whilst ensuring everyone remaining productive and have a great fun working environment, but we’ve pulled it off!

As the expression goes “we eat our own dog food” and run global internal meetings via our conferencing technology on a daily basis to ensure we can all communicate effectively and remain well connected. In addition we use this same technology for our customer meetings so we don’t need to travel to see them face to face.

Products such as Video Conference Software Vidyo, Cisco WebEx, Webinar and other key Conferencing technology enables us to grow our business globally, with virtually no environmental impact.

Without any on-premise servers we are able to minimize personal and business energy use throughout our working day. Add to that the amount of financial saving on business travel, no unnecessary printing and our recycling policies. All in we are striding ahead in a new way to do business – the green way. We have successfully enabled ourselves to have a global reach, with virtually no travel.

We ensure all of our suppliers have green energy policies in place before we secure relationships with them, as an example one of our suppliers being BT and their Better Future strategy.

From the very start of where our products and services come from, right through to the International Conference Call telephone numbers we provide, we remain extremely carbon efficient in our sustainable business practice. Then finally by mitigating our very small carbon footprint by investing in carbon reduction projects in such as the Hanuman Biomass renewable energy project it officially makes us Carbon Neutral and NoCO2 Certified.

Something we are very proud of.

At CO2 Neutral Conferencing we are leading the way not only in minimizing our carbon emissions through our business ethics but also in practicing what we preach – offsetting our already minimal carbon footprint.

So what does being Carbon Neutral actually mean?

Richard Tipper, the technical director of the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management

“The term carbon neutral was actually registered 15 years ago by the Carbon Neutral Company, it has only been in the last few years that the phrase has been widely adopted. It has now become a generic term for all schemes to reduce emissions and environmental impact.”

CO2 Neutral Conferencing is recognized as officially NoCO2 certified by the Carbon Reduction Institute since 2008, we are following through with new and innovative ways to run our business successfully, methodically, whilst saving money and the planet all at the same time. We are the first carbon neutral conferencing service provider and we are market leaders in our field.

We support many different carbon projects to offset our energy consumption, but one our favourites are the Hanuman Biomass renewable energy project. It’s a biomass fired renewable energy project based in Chhattisgarh state, situated in central eastern India. The project generates renewable energy from the collection and clean burning of waste agricultural products, such as rice husks, purchased from local farmers. The farmers are paid for their waste, providing a new source of income for the local community.

The paper and pulp plant of Hanuman Agro Industries used to fire coal to meet the on-site steam demand. Electricity had to be imported from the grid. In addition to the direct emissions this electricity import from the regional grid – also dependent on coal – led to an overall high greenhouse gas emission level. Supported by carbon offset revenues the plant owners decided to replace these installations with a 2.5 megawatt co-generation unit. The new equipment is fired with biomass and supplies all electricity and steam required for the plant’s production processes. The demand for biomass –especially rice husk – gives a value to a residue that so far had been left to decay in the fields.

Thus, the whole region profits from using a local, self-dependent and environmentally friendly fuel source.

In our next Blog find out what we do differently to minimize our internal carbon footprint.
